Schools
There are many opportunities for schools to enhance their sustainability through purchasing, especially regarding the items that students and teachers use almost every day. Many of these items are primarily made from plastic and finding an alternative can be a challenge. Examples of companies that are trying to provide sustainable options for some of the most common school supplies are provided below.

Laundry
One of the leading sources of microplastics in our water is through washing our clothes as hundreds of thousands of microfibers are released into our water system. Finding ways to minimize our impact on water (as well as on energy usage) through our purchasing and laundry habits is vital given our current microplastic crisis.

Meetings & Events
There are a myriad of sustainability concerns that come up when planning a large meeting or event, ranging from the types of food and drink that are offered to the use of plastic products that can be easily disposed of after the event is finished. All too common is the scene during which each table's disposable plastic tablecloth is used to wrap up the food and material waste on that table prior to being thrown in the trash. Alternatives for various food and material items are provided below to help make your meeting or event more sustainable.

Bathroom
It can be overwhelming when you think about all of the items in your bathroom that are either made from plastic or are stored in a plastic container. A majority of our towels and washcloths contain polyester and/or other synthetic fibers, while almost all of the toiletries we use are stored in some sort of plastic container. The key to not becoming overwhelmed, and as a result giving up, is to replace one item at a time with something that represents a sustainable alternative to plastic. Some great examples of alternatives and companies who sell them are provided below.
