Textile Recycling

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the US creates about 17 million tons of textile waste per year, more than half of which ends up in the landfill.  In an effort to reduce textile waste and through various partnerships they have made, the Salvation Army recycles used clothing, shoes, bath and bed linens, and other textiles that cannot be sold in stores.  They can even facilitate the repurposing of scrap cloth into new clothing.  More information regarding the Salvation Army's textile recycling initiative can be found on their website.  To begin repurposing your own used clothing and other textiles, use the "location finder" tool on the Salvation Army website to find a facility that accepts donations near you.  Enter your zip code in the search bar, check the "Dropoff Location" checkbox, and click the red bar titled "Search Services."  Additional locations outside of the Salvation Army accepting textile waste will be added to the map below as they are identified.
